The Island of Lanzarote has a great variety of beaches found all along its 250 kilometres of coast. The beaches vary depending on the area from calm waters and white sand  in the south to choppy waters and black sand in the north east with huge waves for surfing to coves carved out of volcanic rock.


North Coast

  • Playa del Risco. Haría. This beach of golden sand is difficult to get to whether by sea or a hard walk down a path which starts in the village of Guinate to the old salt factories. It is a windy beach but has calm, turquiose waters. It is isolated and has no toilets.
  • Playa de la Cantería. Haría. Situated just past the vilage of Órzola along the coast heading towards Fariones Point. Swimmers should be careful with the strong currents. It is and ideal beach for surfing. it has no toilets.
  • Playa de Caletón Blanco. Haría. Enjoy a golden sand beach surrounded by impressive landscape. Take care with the underwater currents which are a lot stronger than they seem at first sight. It has no toilets.
  • Playa de la Garita. Haría. this a golden sand beach found in the village of Arrieta with calm waters although it can be a little choppy sometimes. This is the most popular beach with residents of the north of the island. It is ideal for surfing. It has toilets and a beach bar.
  • Charco del Palo. Haría. This beach is reached through the village of Mala and is famous for its nudist centre. The swimming area consists of handmade natural swimming pools which blend in perfectly with their suroundings. The open sea area is ideal for scuba diving. This urbanization has supermarkets, shops and restaurants.

East Coast

  • Playa de Las Cucharas. Teguise.  Situated in the town called Costa Teguise, this beach is in the centre of the resort and has golden sand and calm waters. due to being a windy beach, it is ideal for windsurf. It has toilets.
  • Playa Bastian. Teguise. Situated in the area of Costa Teguise, it is a resort beach of fine golden sand, mixed with gravel and is known for its calm waters. It has toilets.
  • Playa del Reducto. Arrecife. Situated in the capital of the island as you are entering from Playa Honda. It is a fine golden sand beach with calm waters, protected from waves by the rock reefs. It is a beach popular with families and groups of friends and is ideal for sport as the sun goes down. There is a long promenade, good access for handicapped people, toilets and a beach bar.
  • Playa Honda. San Bartolomé. Situated in the town of Playa Honda, this is a long fine golden sand beach. The wind conditions on this beach are ideal for wind surfing and kite surfing. There is a long promenade all along the beach where you can walk all the way from Arrecfe to Puerto del Carmen. It has good access for handicaped people and toilets.
  • Playa de Guacimeta. San Bartolomé. This is a golden sand beach with calm waters although it can be a bit choppy sometimes and is very windy for most of the year. It is situated next to the airport. There are no toilets.
  • Playa de Matagorda. Tías. This beach is situated in a beautiful area of Puerto del Carmen. This is a quiet place, perfect for letting the visitor relax. There is a long promenade all along the beach. It has toilets and life guards.
  • Playa de los Pocillos. Tías. This beach can be found in the town of Puerto del Carmen and offers a wide range of water sports such as windsurf due to the excellent wind conditions. There is a long promenade all along the beach, toilets and life guards.
  • Playa Grande. Tías. Situated on the coast of the tourist resort, Puerto del Carmen and next to the promenade, this is a golden sand beach with calm waters, perfect for swimming. It has toilets and showers as well as life guards and  first aid posts.

South Coast

  • Playa Quemada. Yaiza. Situated in the village of Playa Quemado. This is a black sand beach with calm waters and when the tide is low, is ideal for walking to the end of the beach. Take care walking back if the tide is high. there are no toilets although the village has supermarkets and restaurants.
  • Playa de Puerto Muelas. Yaiza. This is a nudist beach with golden sand and calm waters which make it perfect for swimming. It is isolated and has no toilets. It is situated in the Protected Natural Park of Los Ajaches.
  • Playa de Papagayo. Yaiza. This is a nudist beach with golden sand and calm waters which make it perfect for swimming. It is isolated and has no toilets. Above the beach, there are two restaurants. It is situated in the Protected Natural Park of Los Ajaches.
  • Playa Mujeres. Yaiza. This is a nudist beach with golden sand and calm waters which make it perfect for swimming. It is situated in the Protected Natural Park of Los Ajaches ( Playas de Papagayo ) It is an isolated, virgen beach which has no toilets.
  • Playa Blanca. Yaiza. This is a golden sand beach with calm waters which make it ideal for swimming. It is situated in the resort town of Playa Blanca, next to the promenade. There are supermarkets, shops, restaurants, toilets and showers.
  • Playa de Janubio. Yaiza, next to the salt factory. This is a black sand beach with big waves. Swimming is not recommended here because of the strong currents. It is an ideal place to lie down on the warm black sand in the winter months. There are no toilets.
  • Playa del Golfo. Yaiza, next to the salt factory. This is a black sand beach with big waves. Swimming is not recommended here because of the strong currents. It is an ideal place to lie down on the warm black sand in the winter months. There are no toilets.

West Coast

  • Lago de la Santa. Tinajo. Situated next to the village of La Santa. It is a natural lagoon, helped by man but perfectly adapted to its surroundings. It has fine, golden sand and calm waters which make it a perfect place for windsurfing and canoeing. There are no toilets but Club La Santa, which is an important sport resort, is next to the beach.
  • Playa de Famara. Teguise. This beach is several kilometres long and has golden sand and a choppy sea for lovers of surfing and kite surfing. Swimming here is dangerous because of the strong currents. There are no toilets although in the village of Caleta de Famara, there are supermarkets, shops and restaurants.

La Graciosa

  • Playa del Salao. The island of La Graciosa. This is a golden sand beach with calm waters. It is isolated and is situated in a natural protected area. In summer, it is permitted to camp here if you obtain the right permission. There are toilets and showers.
  • Playa Francesa. The island of La Graciosa. This is a golden sand beach with calm waters which make it perfect for swimming. It is situated in a natural protected area and its uniqueness makes it ideal for anchoring yachts. There are no toilets.
  • Playa de la Cocina. The island of La Graciosa. This golden sand beach , with calm waters, is situated next to Montaña Amarilla and is perfect for swimming. It is isolated and situated in a natural protected area. There are no toilets.
  • Playa de Las Conchas. The island of La Graciosa. This windy beach of golden sand is situated in a natural protected area. Swimming is dangerous here all year round due to  big waves and strong currents. There are no toilets.
